Kona Kai--The BEST Island Ambiance and FRIENDLY staff.......

Just recently returned for a vacation to Sanibel after 14 years. Was looking forward to staying at Kona Kai with our family of 5 and meeting up with an additional member in Fort Meyers. Kona Kai has changed cosmetically in those 14 years, but the friendly, welcoming staff has pleasantly stayed the same. Lillian , besides being a helpful and cheery daily welcome has a humorous side as well. Our family engaged in a few delightful conversations with her during our week long stay. It felt like a great big family gathering. Dennis and family had warm greetings with each day and always made sure we were enjoying our time on Sanibel. We sought him out for Island info........He was always there with suggestions and tips galore. The guests there during our stay all seemed to enjoy meeting and exchanging greetings. The daily baskets reminded us that we were on vacation, someone was thinking of us and fueled our kids with energy for the days ahead. We can't wait to return and spend time with our Kona Kai family...................A great place to relax, have good times and enjoy the Island!!!

Kona Kai OUR FAVORITE Place on Sanibel!!!!

Sanibel Island: Kona Kai Motel: "Best of Sanibel"
Oct 22, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Brooksville, Florida

My husband and I came to the Kona Kai in celebration of our 1 year anniversary. We had read very nice comments on the motel and its friendly staff. Our expectations were good, but throughout our stay the staff went above and beyond our expectations. They made sure that we were happy, comfortable, having fun and they were friendly just like they were old pals!!! We felt like we were at home. I will be back to the Kona Kai again. This kind of customer service is so far and few between. You would be smart to choose the adorable, beautiful, motel, where the staff welcomes you with open arms!!!!!! I can't wait until my next trip to Sanibel

Sanibel Island: Kona Kai Motel: "What a Lovely Little Place"
Aug 22, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, New York

This is a charming little place that we happened to come upon after we had decided to stay overnight on Sanibel instead of just for the day. (We stayed 2 nights). The couple who own it are very nice, very helpful. They even lent us beach chairs. All their restaurant recommendations were great. The Kona Kai is very charming, clean and it really gives you the feeling you are somewhere tropical. (great landscaping) It was a very good value and we highly recommend it.

Sanibel Island: Kona Kai Motel: "Wedding Plans"
Feb 3, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Charlottesville, Virginia

The Kona Kai is a wonderful little oasis of peace and quiet on a peaceful and quiet island. A bit hard to find if you aren't looking for it but that is one of the great appeals of the place. Our group rented out a good percentage of the rooms for our wedding party. The hostess, Lillian, was helpful, accommodating and willing to work with my wedding plans when the typically good weather went even further south.

The rooms are clean, well appointed and since we had the pool cottage a great place to lounge and have group gatherings.

Centrally located, it was easy to get on a bike and be anywhere on the island in a short amount of time. I highly recommend a bike, the traffic is horrible but drivers are generally polite.

We loved it there and are already talking about celebrating our first anniversary at the Kona Kai.

Sanibel Island: Kona Kai Motel: "We love the Kona Kai!"
Jan 19, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Otley, West Yorkshire, England.

The tropical gardens, the laid back atmosphere, the Hendrix family and staff...all fantastic. Then there's the pool, lovely and clean - the kids love it. The motel is very safe for kids to mooch around in and handy as a base for us to explore Sanibel and Captiva. We have returned three times and can't wait for our next visit - it's a little Oasis!

Sanibel Island: Kona Kai Motel: "Home Away from Home"
Dec 2, 2004: A TripAdvisor Member, Cape Cod, MA

At the Kona Kai Motel & Cottages, we found hospitality and genuine desire to create a "family" atmosphere. Kona Kai staff went beyond the call of duty to make us feel comfortable and at ease. The Kona Kai provided us with much more than just a room, it was more of a catalyst to give my wife and myself a chance to reexamine ourselves, meaning the quietness of sitting by the river in the back, walking the boardwalk through the grounds looking at the plants, and relaxing in the pool. We found a truly unique setting and a unique staff. My wife and I will always consider the Kona Kai our "home away from home" and hopefully will be back to visit soon.

Dear Dennis, Megan, and Susan,
Well, it worked.... Maura and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I'm not sure if you may remember but my ex wife Maura had come down on April 10th to see if she and I could "reacquaint" ourselves and perhaps have things work out (I was working at Billy's Rentals at the time). Well, I moved back here to Cape Cod and we're once back together again, this time hopefully growing old together. A large part of this is because of your hospitality and genuine desire to create a "family" atmosphere. Your staff went beyond the call of duty to make us feel comfortable and at ease which had a great impact on our relationship together. The Kona Kai provided us with much more than just a room, it was more of a catalyst to give Maura and myself a chance to reexamine ourselves, meaning the quietness of sitting by the river in the back, walking the boardwalk through the grounds looking at the plants, and relaxing in the pool. You truly have a unique setting and a unique staff Dennis. Even though I no longer live on Sanibel, Maura and myself will always consider the Kona Kai our "home away from home" and hopefully will be back to visit soon. Thank you again....

What a wonderful place! After reading the charming brochure, Mary and I just knew this was a destination we had to visit. We were not disappointed, and the helpful staff did everything to make us feel at home.

Within an hour of check in, we took a stroll to the river bank, and you can imagine our surprise when an alligator made his way over to where we were sitting! We also made friends with the local cat and his raccoon buddy. The shelling was fun, and the shell museum was informative.

Kona Kai is situated in a perfect spot, and there are many fine places to eat. We even walked over to McT's, which is right next door and had an excellent early bird special. We would strongly suggest the Kona Kai experience to anyone who wants to get away and enjoy themselves. We know where we will be next June!

".... I would highly recommend (the Kona Kai). It is not often that you see a place that is able to capture the essence of old Florida and make you extremely comfortable at the same time. And what makes the Kona Kai so unique is that it is truly family run and embodies all the ideals that this country of ours was founded on. If you have a potential customer that is looking for quaint, family environment, this is the place to recommend. It truly is the embodiment of all the ideals that we have build a nation on. One family working together to improve the product they are selling and to make the customer feel great."

Dear Dennis & family,

Thank you for making us feel so welcome during our holiday. We feel the Kona Kai is our home away from home. We always enjoy our stay with you and look forward to it all year long.

Your children are wonderful. It is so nice to see them helping out and working together with their dad.

Thank you for always having room for us. It is very much appreciated. See you next near - same time, same place! (maybe before  if we can manage it)
Sincerely,

Just a note to let you know that my family just returned from a wonderful week on Sanibel...one of our best vacations ever! A large part of the fun was due to the wonderful hospitality at the Kona Kai motel where we stayed. The staff and owner of the Kona Kai could not have been friendlier. They kindly answered our many questions about where to go, how to get there, etc. We all enjoyed the beautiful clean swimming pool just outside our door, and the bright/airy accommodations. Captain D (Dennis...the owner) took us on a delightful sightseeing boat trip around the bay. You can be certain that we will be recommending a Sanibel vacation to all of our friends. Hope the Kona Kai get lots of new business from Minnesota!

Hello there - Just wanted to let you guys know that after renting your place for a week, we have recommended it to a friend. My friend and I thought your place was charming and everyone was very friendly, including baby Leah! My friend and I have been coming to Sanibel every spring (we are both teachers and need a vacation by April 1st) and had been renting a condo from some friends. However, this year the condo was taken.

Thanks for having such a nice place and a tropical atmosphere. We enjoyed our time and hope to come again soon! (Hopefully, before next spring!)
Til next time,

Dear Kona Kai,

We spent four wonderful days at your island retreat. We could not have been treated more kindly or made to feel more welcome. The grounds at Kona Kai made us feel that we were in a tropical paradise. We spent much time exploring your gardens. We loved the fresh fruit you provided for breakfast every day. You made our first stay on Sanibel Island so special that we will definitely be back again and again. We highly recommend this resort.
