Introduction

Ed Bell is a man who wears many different hats. Ed is a leader in his community. He serves as the Chairman of the Indiana Governor’s Planning Council for People with Disabilities. He is an Elder in his church and a chaplain in his local lodge. He works part-time as a representative for The Standing Wheelchair Company. Ed is also known across the country as an “outstanding” communicator and a “berry” good speaker, but mostly Ed Bell is known as a strawberry farmer from Hagerstown Indiana.

Ed has been married to Debbie, for over twenty years. Debbie is a part time R.N. They have an eleven-year-old daughter named Nellie. Ed grew up on the family farm and has been farming since he graduated from Purdue University's AG Short Course in 1981. Ed has raised grain, livestock, and truck crops on his 72-acre family farm. Presently Ed grows black raspberries, asparagus, and several acres of strawberries. You can learn more about Ed’s family farm from his web site www.eatmorestrawberries.com.

Ed Bell has had personal experience dealing with hardships. In 1982 at age, twenty-one Ed survived a violent criminal attack and sustained a gunshot wound, which left him permanently, paralyzed. Adversity has not been a stranger to Ed. Adversity has continued to be a regular visitor to the Bell family, including a fire that burned their old log home in 1995. Ed Bell has endured fiery trials of life that could have left him broken, but instead have made him stronger.

Despite life’s hardships, Ed will always be a farmer at heart. Ed not only continues to till the soil but he also enjoys cultivating the hearts of people with his talks. Ed Bell has come tonight to share his insights, his optimism, his overcoming spirit and his since of humor that is guaranteed to make us all laugh.
