"Casually
elegant" is perhaps the most fitting description of the 20,000 square
foot members clubhouse. |
| The Sanctuary Golf Club is the nucleus around which the community itself was founded. Because the Sanctuary is the only golf course community located in the heart of a federal wildlife refuge, protection of the island's delicate ecosystem prevailed even at the earliest stages of development. |
|
| Golfing enthusiasts and environmentalists alike have finally found 465 lush acres of common ground on which both groups can meet. Visible from the expansive clubhouse verandas are both breathtaking views of the natural beauty unique to Sanibel, the result of an extensive environmental agenda and superior golf course architecture. | |

"This could possibly be the most delightful,
pleasant, enjoyable, playable golf course we've ever had the opportunity
to do in Southwest Florida." Arthur Hills Weaving and winding its way past clear lakes and majestic palms, the
6,806 yard championship golf course serves as a testament to the
developers' ability to accommodate both nature and the consummate golfer
with equal passion. Each fairway and green was meticulously designed to
heighten the enjoyment of the game and to simultaneously protect the
surrounding environment. Under the masterful hand of Arthur Hills, one of
golf's foremost architects, the Sanctuary reflects a character all its
own. |
| With one hole after another winding their way along and through unique strands of native vegetation, past natural bird rookies and untouched wildlife habitat, The Sanctuary golf experience is guaranteed to be truly special. Of the 465 acres comprising The Sanctuary, over 200 were set aside for complete preservation and incorporated into the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge, established in 1945 as a national preserve. Named for the political cartoonist and founder of the National Wildlife Foundation, the refuge is home to over 300 species of birds and a large variety of wetland animals. The developers have also set aside 28 acres as a permanent home to the Sanctuary's resident bald eagles and other wildlife species. |
