Figure 9. The grass continues to grow in under salt water irrigation at the K-Club. On the left, the grass is being maintained at about 0.25 inches and on the right at 0.5 inches. Under saltwater irrigation, the turf is about 90% coverage after just 16 weeks following sprigging. The established Seashore Dropseed turf (0.5 inch cut) is shown completely grown-in at 21 weeks after sprigging  in figure 4.

Figure 11. Our seagrass varieties can withstand tremendous amounts of salinity. In Florida, the salinity can vary however due to extended periods of time receiving excess rain. Once irrigation water salinity drops below 5,000 ppm coupled with high rainfall, competing weeds may invade. While herbicides can be utilized to eliminate these weed pests, simple applications of seawater will kill the weed species while leaving the seagrass unaffected. In this view, crabgrass is eliminated from a putting green by applying seawater.

Figure 12. Twelve weeks following elimination of weeds with seawater, the turf shown in Figure 11 has grown in and the green is in great shape.
