How Can Our Expertise Benefit You?
Our specialized areas of expertise allows for
the development of landscapes in the most challenging environments. Water quality issues
and fresh water availability are key issues in landscape development projects. Our
expertise, experience, services and products allows for the development of landscapes in
harsh environments or challenging sites. Instead of imposing rigid controls upon the site
ecosystem in the design phase, we are experts at utilizing and manipulating the existing
ecosystems. For example, where fresh water shortages hamper development, we have
successfully utilized salt water resources for irrigation instead of incurring high
expenses for fresh water piping or desalination plants.
Salt Water and Seawater Irrigation
Utilizing our specially developed turfs and
ornamental plants known collectively as halophytes (salt-tolerant plants) we can make salt
water irrigation feasible. We have even successfully utilized seawater irrigation on golf
courses! What happens on many coastal sites is the need to replace large amounts of turf
after every storm event that results in tidal surge and seawater flooding. If you want to
stabilize a beach front against storm tidal surge utilizing salt water irrigation, we can
do that. Imagine beach front landscapes that never need to replace grass following storm
events! Seawater flooding, no problem!
Soil Ecosystem Management
The key to sustainable management of
challenging landscape environments is the monitoring, manipulation and management of the
soil ecosystem. Our expertise in applied soil ecology allows us to accomplish what others
can not even dream of doing. Yet, what we are doing makes perfect sense. Irrigate with
seawater? One may ask. Of course, nature does this every day. Natural coastal ecosystems
throughout the world are vegetated with plants that utilize seawater for their water
needs. What we have done is to select, evaluate and then develop new varieties of
halophytes that are suitable for landscape use. We even have grass for golf greens that is
salt water irrigated!
Effluent Irrigation
Often effluent use is touted as a remedy for
the lack of fresh water resources. What is often not considered is that effluent is
salt-affected water. Without careful management of effluent, salinity problems and soil
ecosystem problems can arise. Black layer occurrence is common on effluent
irrigated landscapes and can cause considerable damage, expense and even loss of plants.
Waste Sites May Be Developed
If you have a site where unique challenges
exist, we would like to work with you. If you have to use expensive desalinated water for
irrigation, we want to speak to you. If you want to develop a landscape on a landfill or
other waste site, we can help. If you want to install a rooftop or on-structure landscape,
we have the experience. Whether your landscape development is for lawns, sports fields,
road sides, beach side or golf course, we can help you.
Even if your current site(s) do not include
challenging ecosystems, we can help you to evaluate potential sites that could not be
easily developed without our type of system. These sites would be passed over by other
developers/owners as impractical to develop and yet these sites can often be obtained at
more reasonable costs. Additionally, some of these sites offer some of the most
interesting of settings as well. We hope that we may be of service to you in your
development needs.
